Globalization : Is It Real Free Trade or Neo Colonialsm?
While some people think of globalization as primarily a synonim for global business, it is much more than that. Globalization means that the flow of information, communication, and trade are faster than ever before. Or let say, that globalization is new era where aspects of human get into the next step. Globalization that i try to figure out in this essay is specialized in trading.
Nowadays, trading is very important in human's life. Importing, exporting, buying and selling goods are parts of trading, not only goods, but also services. Then, what is the connection between globalization and trading? Trading in globalization era means goods and services produced in one part of the world are increasingly available in all parts of the world.
This phenomenon happens because the mobilization of human increasing fastly. Therefore, to cover the human needs, the distribution of human needs (goods and services) have to be wider.
Free trade, is it the way for people to do globalization ? We can say like that. The definition of free trading is the distribution goods and services doesn't need much money, or no money at all. That was why it is called "free". So you can get goods and services from other countries without paying for the distribution fee.
It is good if it can brings prosperity to the people. But how if the free trading turns out becoming neo colonialsm?
Neo colonialsm, which means bigger countries can get more benefits from trading than the smaller countries. Let see the example, in globalization era, Japan, the bigger country (bigger in prosperity, not in region) can buy Indonesia's recources in lower price than before, because they don't have to pay the distribution fee. So, Indonesia get lower income from trading. Lower income also means lack of prosperity, right?
Let say, the rich countries will become richer, but the poor will be poorer too..
Globalization is a real free trading or another shape of neo colonialsm, it depends on the way the globalization being done. Like human, globalization has two side, the good and bad side. The most important thing that people has to remember is the purpose of globalization, which is to increase the prosperity of human's life.
The solutions are in the mechanisms of it. Mechanisms are needed to make sure globalization is a positive force in the world.
